Four hundred feet of towline, and a coastline you finally understand

The boat does the work. You just go up.

Where the flying is good

Parasailing works anywhere the wind is soft and the water is deep.

Five coastlines carry most of it. What each one charges to put you in the harness, and what you are looking at once the towline runs out.

Bolted onto the flight

Almost nobody sells parasailing on its own any more.

The flight lasts ten or fifteen minutes, so operators hang the rest of the day off it: a jet ski, a banana boat, a snorkel stop, lunch on the way back in. These are the combinations worth paying for.

Before you leave the deck

Parasailing has five rules, and every one of them can end your flight.

None of it is difficult, but all of it is decided before you reach the jetty. Read the weight line on the booking page, take the early slot, and know whether you want your feet wet.

  1. 01Weight, both ends of itBoats fly to a combined minimum and a combined maximum, which is why a light child usually goes up strapped to an adult and three-person flights have the tightest ceiling. The number is on the booking page. Check it before you pay, not on the dock.
  2. 02Wind decides, not youToo little and the canopy will not lift, too much and the boat will not launch. Operators cancel and rebook rather than argue with it, and the calm hour is usually the first one after breakfast.
  3. 03A minimum age, and a grown-upMost boats set a floor somewhere around six and want an adult in the harness alongside anyone small. Ask before you promise it to a seven-year-old.
  4. 04Dry, or dippedYou are winched off the deck and winched back onto it, so a flight can be completely dry. Ask for the dip and the crew will drop you to your knees in the sea on the way in.
  5. 05The camera is a separate boat jobNothing you are holding survives the launch, so photos come from the crew. Some flights include them, some sell them at the end, and the difference is worth reading.
Price per seat

A parasailing flight costs less than most people expect.

Every priced trip on the site, sorted by what one seat costs. The flight itself is short, so the price is really buying the boat around it.

Under $50

Beach operators on the Red Sea and in southeast Asia, and the short lifts off a Mediterranean marina.

$50 to $150

The standard: a dedicated parasail boat, a fifteen-minute flight, a crew that hands you photos afterwards.

$150 and up

Full boat days, private charters and the combination trips that carry snorkelling, lunch and a catamaran with them.
